Summary[]

Joshua Jones had been busy all day working on a surprise for Ravi. "You've made me a raft!" cried Ravi. "Lets see if it floats" "I've tried on the plug to keep the air in" said Josh. "Can I have a go now" asked Ravi. "If you promise not to do anything daft". Josh said as he handed the paddle to Ravi. "Bon Voyage" he said. "Come on", "Fairport back to work". It was time to load up the Delilah but where was Spanner? A piece of paper caught Josh's eye. I've gone to Sharon's to get me strength up signed Spanner. "Oh no", said Josh. "Come on, Fairport we'll have to fetch him from the café". Spanner was feeling disgruntled. He'd come to the café for fish and chips and all he'd got was chips. "Hey up Sharon where's the fish?" "I'm sorry, treasure". "I've been too busy with my photography to go to the fish shop" "I'm an ace fisherman, I'll catch you some fish" Spanner told her. "You can even take a photograph of them. Keep the chips warm while I get my rod" Spanner positioned himself beside the canal. All he had to do was sit quietly. So he wasn't pleased when Fiona bounded up to say hello. "You'll never catch anything here. The water's too oily for fish". "So, I'm fishing for sardines", said Spanner grumpily. "They come in oil don't they?" "Look Spanner" said Fiona. "I can see Ravi. He's got a boat". "Where did you get that?" she shouted to Ravi. "Josh made it for me. Do you went a ride?" "Yes please", said Fiona as she clambered onto the raft. "Where shall we go?" asked Ravi. "How about the pirates favorite eating place - Sharon's Café?" Fiona suggested. Wilton Cashmore was practicing his birthday speech to his boss, Mr Biggott. "Have a happy.... No... I do hope you have a very happy day, dear Mr Biggott", He said. "I'm off to see Mr Biggott's now, Mrs Karia" he called. "I plan to deliver this most important package by hand". Someone started shouting on the canal bank and Wilton strode over to the balcony and peered down. "What on earth is going on?" he said. Spanner was struggling with his rod, he'd catch. The water ripped and then - slurp - an old bicycle wheel soared through the air, Muddying Wilton's best suit as it flew past the balcony. "Spanner! look what you've done". roared Wilton. "Why aren't you at work?" "I'm on my way, sir" said Spanner. Spanner rushed back to Sharon's Café to tell everyone about his fishing adventure. He was just describing his catch when Wilton marched up carrying his pleasant. "Spanner, I thought I told you...." Spanner made a quick exit. Fiona said "Dad, Spanner was telling us about this big fish he nearly caught". "Spanner couldn't catch a cold". "Here, give me that rod I'll show you how it's done", said Wilton. He flicked the line back, not noticing that the hook had caught the bow on the box. With a swoop Wilton lifted the present in the air and deftly cast it in the canal. "Oh no! Not Mr Biggott's lovely present", wailed Wilton. "We'll get it with the raft", said Ravi. "No I'll go", said Wilton. "Out of my way children". As Wilton landed on the raft it wobbled and threatened to tip him into the water. "I'm falling off, he shrieked grabbing wildly for something to hold onto. Fiona and Ravi watched in horrified as he pulled the plug. The air inside the tube began to escape in great exploding bubbles and the raft whizzed from one side of the canal to the other. "Help! Help Me!" shouted Wilton as he clung to the raft. Nearby, Josh and Spanner had nearly finished loading the Delilah when they heard a distant cry. "Help" Help! I'm drowning!". "Good heavens its Wilton" said Josh as the bedraggled figure of Wilton swept into view clinging to the wreckage of Ravi's raft. "I better try out my life saving training" said Josh. "I've a better idea" said Spanner stationing himself at the crane. Spanner swung the crane over the canal. "Okay, Mr Cashmore catch hold of the hook and I'll pull you clear". Gulping, Wilton made a grab and was winched to safety. "Er, thank you, Spanner, good man", he said as he stood dripped by the side of the canal. "He's my hero", said Sharon as she snapped a picture with her camera. "A hero", agreed Josh. "Spanner deserves a big plate of fish and chips" Spanner laughed. "I never reckoned to catch one as big as this!".
